Welcome everyone thank you for joining us today. This is the 26th year of the Nelson -Izu-shi Sister Cities. I am Bent Cross, President of the Nelson-Izu-Shi Friendship Society.

I would like to formally welcome our Japanese friends to Nelson. I use the words friends because we know that you come here as people we do not know and before you leave, we know you will have found a place in our hearts. Over the years this program has created many long term friendships. Last year Mona and I had the opportunity to visit Japan and friends we have known for many years have become more like family. We hope that more of you will feel that was as well.

I would like to take this time also to thank the host families for inviting you into their homes. Without host families this would not be possible.

I would also like to thank the Mayor Dooley and the City of Nelson and the Regional District for their support of the program.

As well the Committee that out this together:
June Spearman, Mona Smith, Jimmy Sawada, Tim Powell, Bernie Zimmer, Bob Adams and Yukako Krause.
They have all put in a lot of work to help organise this event.

We hope everyone has a great time here in Nelson.
